About Our Location
Island Park Village is said to have the longest main street of any community in the United States. Main Street is actually over twenty miles long that runs north and south on Highway 20 up through the beautiful Targhee National Forest in Southeast, Idaho. Here and there, spread out along Main Street, are resorts, eating places, boat rentals, fishing spots, snowmobile rentals, horse rentals, and so forth. On that route a few miles south of the famous Pond’s Lodge inn and resort area a mile or so north of the Last Chance resort area is the turn off to the east on the Chick Creek Road. The Chick Creek Road is an improved logging road that goes east for many miles and heads through the heart of the Targhee National Forest toward Black Mountain and the western boundary of Yellowstone National Park. After traveling for approximately four miles a right (south) for another mile or so will take you to the South Sawmill Lodge. This is also the route towards the Island Park, Boy Scouts of America scout camp. You will turn left again on Old Mill Road. The Lodge is nestled next to the tree line of the National Forest on the north and Buffalo Basin on the south. The Buffalo Basin is in the central area of the great Volcanic Caldera that makes up Island Park.
